I began playing the game in 2007, when my college director asked me to participate in the netball inter college tournament. At that time i dint even know what the game is all about neither I played much. Just the fact of being tall I was put to play the game. After a month, I got a letter from the federation of India that I have been selected to attend the Indian camp for the Commonwealth Games 2010. That too just because of good height.
Knowing nothing about the game, my B.com (hons) main exams just after a month, and the 20 days Indian netball camp for CWG 2010. All the problems were in front of me. I discussed the matter with my parents, and they left everything to me. I thought about it and decided to grab this opportunity without thinking much about the future of this sport nor about my main exams.
The 20 days hard core camp began in February, 2008. There were 22 girls in the camp and we were giving training under the Srilankan foreign coach Mrs. Lourdes Jayasekera.
I learned the A B C of the game in the camp and I was the only girl who used to throw bundle of questions with the curiosity to learn the game.
Netball being a game full of rules and regulations, a truly feminine game, lovely to watch, needs lot of coordination and drives the spectators with its fast passes, moves and specialization of players in there playing positions. My opinion about the game changed after learning it and seeing the international standards of the teams like Australia and New Zealand.
Then what!
My selection in the best 16 after the first camp for the further CWG camps and the PASSION towards the game made me work hard and gave me a new ambition to play for the INDIAN NETBALL TEAM IN COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2010.
Not just this, my hidden dream of being the CAPTAIN of the team also became true! :-)
